It’s been a minute since I’m done one of these so I thought I’d give a post-survey closing update. I’ve been doing some graphics work for the series, both by myself and commissioning work from other designers and artists. I’ve got a logo underway for the series and a logo for myself as well, both of which are looking very cool if I do say so myself. Once I have that I will be sharing it both here and on twitter as well as in Discord. Discord will probably see it first, followed by Twitter so I hope you follow me on both of those platforms. I personally made this pretty spiffy graphics opening card which you can see here (http://bit.ly/2xi7TrP). I will say it is probably not the final, final one that will go into the episode but it will end up looking very much like that with some color that I haven’t picked yet.

In other news I’ve been working on the rough draft of the script for Episode 01: Defining Fandom - which if anyone has a better name for it feel free to share, thanks. It is 90% done but I need to have someone who isn’t me reread it from the top just to make sure. It’s looking to be around two pages long so not to get to long in video format which I think is a nice enough length.

In the self promo news, you can see more of the things that I’m working on in closer detail on Patreon if you want to support this series financially (Patreon: http://bit.ly/2xqk0CV). There is also a discord for chatting and just general hanging out in. Where I do a much more semi regular Captains Log of the status. Basically post that are too long for Twitter but not long enough to warrant their own blog post. So come hang out if you want to. Lurkers are forever welcomed.

And finally one of the other things I’ve been poking around at is making a website to host the project. While having it on youtube will be a permanent home, I feel like a part of fandom is building out own home to host our works. Hence the website. But that is a secondary concern and task to getting the first video out so look forward to that sometime over the summer.

Until next time.

Here's the thing about me and blog post, I'm admittedly not great at them. Not because I think they're hard to write but because I feel like with social media sites like twitter everything that is in a blog post is just a rehash of what that was said on Twitter. The benefits of the blog post, however, is it's everything I've said on twitter but longer and more detailed. In my continued revising and updating of the scope of this project, I hope and plan on using this blog as a place to expound on whatever recent tweets and updates I've made over the last week or two depending on the time between post. Thank you to everyone who has been patient with me as I work out the kinks in this project. And off to the update, we go.

If you've seen the last few twitter post from me, you'll know that I've been messing around with a discord bot. I'm trying to set it up so that anything I tweet gets, post you dreamwidth or anywhere else that isn't discord gets announced to the server. Unfortunately, that means learning new bits of code for me and messing around because the simple ifttt webhook method isn't working for me. Sorry to everyone who's seeing those tweets and is wondering what exactly is going on. Nothing exciting but it will be pretty cool when I get it up and running because I haven't found a discord bot that does what I'm trying to do. So yahhhh new things.

Speaking of Discord, feel free to come hang out on the server. Outside of Twitter, it's basically my social media platform of choice. I'm also messing around pretty passively with Mastodon. I haven't quite got the hang of that one yet, but I'm giving it a whirl.

The next major update that I've talked about a little on Twitter and I told several people who have filled out the interest survey is the scope slash set up of this series is changing. It was pointed out to me, and I realized as well not everyone is okay with linking their face and voice to fandom due to various reason but that doesn't mean I don't want to hear from them. Personally, I'm too far gone (?) in fandom to put the rabbit back in the hat to mix metaphors here. Basically, I'm shameless when it comes to my love of fandom and, and anyone who knows me "In Real Life" already know this or very quickly learns this. So I'm okay or getting to be okay with putting my name and face to this. And I understand and respect that not everyone can, does or wants to do the same. Because of this I'm switching up the format of this series and having it be less documentary style and more video essays style. In explaining this change to people, I've referenced Nerdwritter videos and Brian David Gilbert Polygon series "Unraveled." In the end, I hope this series will end up being me, talking to everyone about various topics based on the information and research I've gathered. So that's it, that's the update on the current format of the series. It should still be the same two weeks for turn around I planned for so nothing has changed there. Now to just get the first video up and running.

Which brings us to the topic of our first video, What is Fandom? Where else would one start a series about the history of fandom without talking about what is fandom, it's essay writing one oh one. As always, the more people who fill the survey out, the better.

Second to last update, the general interest survey! Same as the Defining Fandom survey, the more people who fill it out, the better. And unlike the defining fandom survey, this one will be open forever and ever as long as this project is going. If you're interested in participating, please fill it out. If you know someone who you think would be interested in this project, please forward it along to them and finally share this with as many people as you can or would like to. The more eyes on this, the better.

And finally here's a plug for my patreon. Right now the concerning cost I need to cover somehow is getting better equipment, primarily a better camera than my laptop webcam. Because of who I am and my incessant need to "future proof" thing I want to shoot the video in something better HD so in the future, it still looks good.

Right now this project is being built in google docs, google slides, adobe audition, adobe premiere, and adobe after effects just because they're the tools I know and there are only so many new things I can learn at once.

I am not sure if how this is going to go because in the sprite of full honesty I am historically bad at keeping up with a blog, which may make you wonder why I ran a poll asking if I should. Well, the short answer is because I feel like its something that I should and because when I do keep it up, I enjoy it. I get forgetful, see Twitter post all last week. Which was partly because nothing of note happened last week in terms of me working on this but also because work was a low key shit show, so I was distracted. Back on topic! I've gotten slash made a revised schedule. Mostly because I got ahead of myself, I need to build a backlog of content and people before I move forward or else I'll always be scrambling so for a while many of post will be me begging people to fill out surveys about things and talking about what I've worked on for the week.

Moreover, assuming I do something new every week, I do plan on doing a post of this sort. There if I can swing it will even be a video vlog style, which will probably be a word for word reiteration of what's in this post. Mostly so people don't have to check two different places for the information you can pick your preferred method and follow me there. In terms of social media if you'd like to follow me there's here on dreamwitdh, twitter (where I've to cross-posted a link to this post and a variation of this post), discord (come hang out with me and chat, I'm almost always on discord) and obviously youtube which will just be videos because I don't really understand the community feature of youtube not going to lie.

Now for the actual project update, I've been slacking not going to lie about that. Mostly because as I said work had been a bit of a show into itself which was unexpected. There are several people I have to email which at this point of posting this I would hope that I've already done.  Also if you were looking for an email from me because you filled out the survey sorry for the delay I am working on sending them out to people. I'm on top of being bad at maintaining a blog I'm also bad at sending emails even after I have drafted them up. Also if you were waiting for a follow up from me, sorry again for the long delay between emails.

In terms of the project and not just me apologizing for various things I've decided to change the format a bit. As I mentioned before on Twitter, I've been playing with the idea of how to preserve peoples anonymity because not everyone is comfortable with their wallet name/face being out there so what I've come up with doing this as video essays/motion graphic projects. That means having to learn a bit more about After Effects than I currently know and less about Premiere which is what I did for the first video. A bonus of this is I would script all the episodes, and there would be a text-based version of them for people who aren't fond of watching videos.

Finally, if anyone is interested in helping me out with this project feel free to message me wherever. The most important thing I need right now is someone to take over for me in terms of communicating with people and helping me out with various social media things because that is not my skill set at all.
